Surprising news has come from the modelling world as Miss Argentina and Miss Puerto Rico have announced that they are married. In a shared Instagram post, Mariana Varela (26) and Fabiola Valentín (22), shared images of their rings, honeymoon, as well as the wedding itself.
The Two Models Dated for 2 Years
Varela and Valentin met at the Miss Grand International in 2020. Varela netted a top-10 spot in the event. Valentín also finished in the top 10 list. Shortly after MGI, both models started dating but kept their relationship pretty private. Both of them shared little to no details about their romance, which is why the Instagram post was met with a lot of praise. Comments started flooding. Their followers congratulated them and one of them even said that their marriage is “the best that Miss Grand has given us.”
Other comments read that MGI was responsible for bringing a “beautiful union” together. Varela was quick to respond to the comments by thanking everyone for their support and saying that she and Valentin are “very happy and blessed.” She ended by saying that she hopes that the love that their followers are giving them is multiplied an infinite amount of times. The marriage between the two won’t be a problem in Puerto Rico and Argentina. After all, both countries consider same-sex marriages legal. Same-sex marriage in Puerto Rico was legalized on July 13, 2015, in the aftermath of the US Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges.
According to the Supreme Court, bans on same-sex marriages were unconstitutional under the Due Process and Equal Protection clauses of the Constitution. The first marriages in Puerto Rico were recorded on July 17, 2015, two days after people could apply for same-sex marriage licenses.
As for Argentina, the country was the first Latin American nation to legalize these bonds. It did so in 2010, even though the decision was opposed by evangelical Protestant churches and the Catholic Church. Same-sex marriages had all the rights of heterosexual marriage rights, including the right to adopt children.
