What are the ingredients in chicken tikka masala?

Chicken tikka masala consists of chicken tikka, boneless chicken pieces marinated in spices and yogurt, baked in the oven and served with a creamy sauce. Tomato and coriander sauces are common, but no chicken tikka masala recipe is standard; chicken was the only common ingredient in 48 different recipes, according to a survey. The sauce usually consists of tomatoes (usually a puree), cream, coconut cream, and masala spice mix. Sauces and chicken pieces can be colored orange with foods like turmeric, paprika, tomato paste, or food coloring. Chicken curry is similar in recipe and appearance to butter chicken.
Chicken Tikka Masala, a dish consisting of marinated boneless chicken pieces traditionally cooked in a tandoor and served with a delicately spiced tomato and cream sauce. Who invented chicken tikka masala?

I asked my guide on this food tour in Delhi where Chicken Tikka Masala came from and he thought it was invented in England but made better by local Indian cooks using good spices. His answer surprised me. People like to express their nationalism through food, so I thought he would say it’s from India!
While the dish’s origins are uncertain, Glasgow restaurateur Ali Ahmed Aslam invented Chicken Curry by improvising a sauce from a can of condensed tomato soup and spices. Originally from the Punjab province of Pakistan, Ali Ahmed moved to Glasgow in 1964 and opened his Shish Mahal restaurant in Glasgow’s West End. Aslam died in 2022 at the age of 77. Asif Ali, Aslam’s son, spoke to the Glasgow Times about his father’s involvement with charities in Scotland and Pakistan.

How does chicken tikka masala taste?

Whenever I have chicken tikka masala, I almost always serve it with naan and basmati rice because I love the contrast in textures. Dip naan into a creamy curry is great, but so is eating curry rice with fried boneless chicken nuggets. It’s like two different but equally enjoyable experiences.
This is not chicken tikka masala, chicken should be cooked first with tikka seasoning and then served with partially cooked masala sauce, this is just chicken grilled in masala sauce, nothing inspiring.
